The trip started with a few days in exotic Kathmandu. We then flew to Pokara and drove a couple of hours to a trail head south of Annapurna. We trekked in the Annapurna Sanctuary, which is a well protected conservation area. The Modi Khola ("turbid river") valley is inhabited by the Gurung ethnic group, which moved south from Tibet in the 6th century. The Gurung language is a dialect of Tibetan.
