Sea Kayaking in Greenland, August 2009 : I led a Sierra Club sea kayaking trip in southeast Greenland in August 2009. The trip took the scenic route from Kuummiut (aka Kungmit on some maps) to Sermiligaaq for a total of about 80 miles of paddling in 10 days (with 9 nights of camping, plus additional days for travel to and from Reykjavik, Iceland). Unlike my 2005 trip, this one had exceptionally good weather. As in 2005, boats, tents, paddle gear, food, and a local guide were provided by Ultima Thule Expeditions (www.ute.is) of Reykjavik (and as before, UTE did an outstanding job). These photos give you a quick taste of the Greenland paddling experience.

Curt's Kongakut River Trip 2008 : These are a few of Curt's photos from the Sierra Club raft trip he led June 12-22, 2008 on the Kongakut River in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the far northeast corner of Alaska. The trip started and ended in Fairbanks. We spent nine nights camping on the river. In total we saw about 15,000 cariboo (1,500 along the river and the rest on the coastal plain), at least 100 Dall's sheep, 4 grizzlies, one moose, one lynx, one wolf (chasing a cariboo), one dead musk ox, and all sorts of birds and flowers and pretty rocks. (All photos were taken with a Nikon D80 and a 28-200 mm vibration reduction lens. I did not take a tripod because of the weight restrictions on the flights.)

Curt's Singapore orchids : Curt spent ten days working in Singapore in late January, 2008. He and his camera did find time to visit the National Orchid Garden of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The National Orchid Garden is considered to be the best in the world, with over 1,000 species and another 2,000 hybrids. Here are a few examples. No further commentary...just enjoy!!
